Well done Warrington

Well done Warrington

Well done to Warrington’s Rugby League World Cup 2013 ‘Back the Bid Team’, who scooped the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ at the Warrington Guardian Business Awards.

The Liverpool Hope University-sponsored accolade was awarded to the business or person that best reflects what can be achieved in Warrington today.

Warrington ’s bid to be a host town in the Rugby League World Cup started in early 2011, and the council and its bid partners (Warrington Wolves RLFC, Warrington Wolves Foundation, University of Chester , Marketing Cheshire and Virgin Trains) were determined to bring RLWC2013 to the town.

A fantastic response from local people and businesses, over 3000 of which signed a pledge to support the bid, led to Warrington being confirmed as a host town in November last year.  The Halliwell Jones Stadium will host a group stage game, Samoa v New Zealand, and a quarter final match as well.
