Rugby League continues growth in Fiji ahead of RLWC2013

Yesterday, FNRL development officer Sale Tubuna was in Ra to oversee their zone competition being played in East and West zones.

He said he had seen a drastic change in the sport since his last visit.

"I came here last year to officiate in a game and now I came back to see their zone competition and the changes were really evident," Tubuna said.

"The teams, officials and spectators have more knowledge of the sport now, the players' skills have improved and they have improved in how they play rugby league," he said.

"This is a good sign for the sport in the country and it shows that the development work we have been carrying out around the country has not gone to waste."

Dakai Tigers, which have lost only one game, are the front runners in the Ra East zone while Uluisuvani Warriors were conquers of the competition in the Ra West zone.

Meanwhile, in the Suva zone competition, new club Geotech Topline Warriors created the biggest upset when they beat Nabua Broncos 18-8.

Tubuna said Warriors were the biggest improvers in the Suva zone.

"In another upset, new club Lami Steelers drew with City Storm 24-all," he said.

Three rounds of competition in the Vodafone Cup rugby league zone competition remain.
