On Saturday the 3rd of February the Hungarian National Rugby League Team, the Magyar Bulls defeated the Philippines National Rugby League Team, the Philippine Tamaraws 30 - 12.
The Hungarian team started the game with only 16 players due to injuries to two players leading up to the Test Match. To make things harder for the Hungarians, their half back, Lachlyn Mulford left the 20 mins into the game with a broken jaw, and Front Rower Joel Saaghy had to leave the field after a head clash.
Despite the loss of players, the Hungarian sides defence was relentless, defending their line for multiple sets in a row, then capitalising off errors the Philippines side made, by scoring 5 tries.
Coach Jonathan Wilson said after the game "I am proud of how the team worked for each other from start to finish. We had a few players struggling with injuries but still pushed through 80 minutes for their team mates. This was by far the sides best ever performance. We still have a number of players to return from injury, but we are building well for the Rugby League Emerging Nations World Championship later this year. The game was a lot closer than the score line suggests, the Philippines (ranked 25th in the world) played well, and are a really strong side".
Co-Captain Stuart Flanagan won the man of the match award. He scored 2 tries, and set up a couple more in a dominant performance, despite carrying an injury through most of the match.
TRIES: Jayden Bruckner 2, Stuart Flanagan 2, James Kovác.
