There were stars from across the sporting world at the launch of the 2019 Betfred Super League season held at Old Trafford, Manchester.
From the world of soccer, former England manager and player, Stuart Pearce was quick to praise the honesty of rugby league as one of the factors that drew him to love the sport. He described the athleticism and the skills of the players as amazing and recognised that they are among the most remarkable sports people on the planet.
From the world of boxing, Leeds Rhinos fan Josh Warrington was keen to describe how, although he fears no-one in the ring, he would think twice about getting in the way of some Super League players.
The season is punctuated with great highlights from the opening round featuring mouth watering clashed designed to have the house full signs put up to the traditional 70,000 fans attending the Grand Final at Old Trafford. In between will be the World Club Challenge between Wigan and the Roosters, the feast that is the traditional Easter Weekend, a visit to the iconic Nou Camp in Barcelona where Catalans Dragons will host Champions, Wigan Warriors and then the Magic Weekend at Anfield, Liverpool.
Every week there will be games to raise the pulse and attract fans from around the world.
CEO, Robert Elstone pointed out that the Betfred Super League starts the season with half of the competition quoted at 12/1 or less to be the winners.
Finally, rugby league legend, Ellery Hanley was announced as the Chair of the 21 strong panel of ex-players and coaches who will monitor the competition each week to select the best players and award the pointsto decide the eventual winner of the Steve Prescott Man of Steel Award.
The season kicks off on Thursday January 31st when St Helens will face their traditional rivals, Wigan.
